Otieno Mbare is currently a PhD researcher at the Institute for Advanced Management Systems Research, Åbo Akademi University, Finland, having completed his Masters degree in the spring of 1996. His research interests are primarily in broad Organisation Studies and Management. He wrote his masters thesis on Strategic Cost Management using a value chain framework. At the moment, he is conducting a PhD study focusing on the understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility in Finnish and Kenyan companies. The dissertation is expected in early 2004. A member of the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN), Otieno Mbare had a humble beginning, his father, now retired, and had been a priest with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya.

Otieno Mbare has attended several academic conferences and seminars in Finland and in far flung countries such as the USA, Germany, South Africa, Sweden, etc. In all these conferences, he has been actively presenting his thoughts on various issues concerning corporate ethics and social responsibility. Recently, he has developed keen interest in strategic management; and how companies could successfully integrate corporate social responsibility as a strategic tool for business success and competitive strategy.

As a student, he played key leadership roles at the Kenya Polytechnic where he trained in Accountancy. Otieno Mbare was the student leader at the Kenya Polytechnic. He became one of the founder members of the Kenya Association for the Advancement of Computer Technology (KAACT) - a worldwide organisation comprised of Kenyans professionals, academicians and students. The organisation is registered in USA. During that time, he served as the organisation's asst. treasurer.

Otieno Mbare later founded another organisation called Kiseru Global Union, which is also registered in Rochester, the state of New York, USA. He has served, as it's first president since 1993 until 1996 when he relinquished that position. The organisation is also comprised of Luo professionals, academicians and students. Otieno Mbare has had over ten years working experience both at home and abroad. He is married to Eunice and they have four children - Biko, Candy, Wendy and Backman Mbare.
